The journey to IPC 2028 begins

In June 2028, the global peatland community will meet in Riga for the International Peatland Congress 2028. Scientists, policymakers, industry representatives, NGOs, practitioners and peatland enthusiasts from around the world will come together to exchange knowledge, challenge established thinking and explore the future of peatlands.

Peatlands are ecosystems, carbon stores and landscapes shaped by water. But they are also places where people live and work, sources of knowledge and resources, and landscapes carrying centuries of cultural history. Their future cannot be understood from one perspective alone.

That is why IPC 2028 will create a space where different voices meet — from science and conservation to responsible use, restoration, policy and local communities.

Why Latvia?

Latvia is a country where peatlands are part of both nature and everyday life. Peatland landscapes, peatland research, conservation, restoration and responsible peat use exist side by side, making Latvia a unique place to discuss the choices and challenges facing peatlands worldwide.

And the Congress will not stay only inside conference halls.

Field excursions will take participants into Latvian peatlands to see, discuss and experience different approaches to their management, use, conservation and restoration.

This is only the beginning

Over the coming months, we will share the first information about the Congress themes, scientific programme, excursions, important dates and opportunities to participate.
